Our great game can seem complex at times, so education is essential. That is why, as part of our ongoing commitment to our kids and as part of our community responsibility as a club, we host education courses each year at Easts.
If you want to get straight into refereeing, follow the steps below.
The starting point for understanding our game is Smart Rugby. This is a minimum requirement for our coaches.
To access the learning centre and other materials you will need a Rugby Xplorer account, register or login here.
To find out more about the Smart Rugby accreditation and how to begin, click here.
When you have finished the Smart Rugby course, please get in touch with the club so you can stay informed and get on your way with your involvement.
On completing this course you will be placed into the Level 1 Referee Program (15yo+) or Refereeing Kids Rugby (13-14yo) to then complete your on-field assessment. To be eligible for this course you must be turning 13 in the calendar year of enrolment.
To enrol in the course, login to Rugby Xplorer, and select Learning Centre from the menu. Ensure you select your profile, then choose Browse Learning from the top menu. Select Referee under the Match Officiating heading. Scroll down or search for Referee Ready Course and select it. Choose a session you can participate in, and click Enrol.
Following this and your request being accepted, you will referee some games with our referee mentor James Dickson as an intro to the club, culture and some general tips!
Register with Sydney South Referees who arrange the appointments for Saturday games at Nagel Park and Sunday games at the Woollahra Ovals.
